a powerful prophetic 47 00:04:19.360 --> 00:04:24.000 occurrence that happened in the Old Testament really speaks to the generation 48 00:04:24.000 --> 00:04:32.400 that we are part of today and so Genesis 28 and we'll start in what I said in 49 00:04:32.400 --> 00:04:37.280 verse 10 now Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran so he 50 00:04:37.280 --> 00:04:41.080 came to a certain place and stayed there all night because the Sun had set 51 00:04:41.080 --> 00:04:47.040 and he took one of the stones of that place I want you to take note of that 52 00:04:47.040 --> 00:04:54.800 word stone he took a stone from that place he took a stone from that place 53 00:04:54.800 --> 00:05:01.920 and put it at his head stone at head 54 00:05:00.000 --> 00:05:07.740 Stone head. He was on a journey, he got weary, he took the stone, put it at his 55 00:05:07.740 --> 00:05:14.560 head and he lay down. He rested his head on a stone. And he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed and 58 00:05:31.840 --> 00:05:37.800 behold a ladder was set up on earth and its top reached to heaven and there the 59 00:05:37.800 --> 00:05:42.200 angels of God were ascending and descending on it. Now it was set up, it 60 00:05:42.200 --> 00:05:47.560 never said, it never once says it was taken down, it just says it was set up. And then it goes on, he recounts the 66 00:06:13.560 --> 00:06:21.080 dream. And then in verse 16, it's a very powerful dream, it's amazing. It says, 67 00:06:21.080 --> 00:06:28.200 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, Surely the Lord is in this place and I 68 00:06:28.200 --> 00:06:33.400 did not know it. And he was afraid, the fear of the Lord came on him, and he said, 69 00:06:33.400 --> 00:06:40.360 How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God and this is 70 00:06:40.360 --> 00:06:50.240 the gate of heaven. Then Jacob rose early in the 71 00:06:50.240 --> 00:06:55.360 morning and took the stone that he had put at his head and set it up as a 72 00:06:55.360 --> 00:07:00.440 pillar. There it is right there, right in the Bible, right there. This is the 73 00:07:00.440 --> 00:07:06.200 kingdom pillar. He set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it and he called 74 00:07:06.200 --> 00:07:10.800 the name of that place Bethel, but the name of that place had been previously 75 00:07:10.800 --> 00:07:17.920 called Luz. And he goes on, he talks some more about that stone. So let me break 76 00:07:17.920 --> 00:07:23.160 this down a little bit for you. Jacob is on the way somewhere. He has an encounter 77 00:07:23.160 --> 00:07:30.680 where he walks into a place and he walks into the place unaware of the glory of 78 00:07:30.680 --> 00:07:35.800 God and unaware of the presence of God that was already with him and already in 79 00:07:35.800 --> 00:07:40.040 that place. He was actually walking in a way where he was unaware of what was 80 00:07:40.040 --> 00:07:44.200 available to him and he was somewhat unaware of his place. He was 81 00:07:44.200 --> 00:07:48.480 unaware of the open heavens that were around him. He says, Surely God was in 82 00:07:48.480 --> 00:07:55.480 this place, but I didn't know it. In other words, man got like God. God is here and 83 00:07:55.480 --> 00:08:01.240 he was here before I became aware he was here. I can't believe I wasn't aware of 84 00:08:01.240 --> 00:08:06.440 this before, but now I am. This is none other than the house of God. This is the 85 00:08:06.440 --> 00:08:12.120 gate of heaven. So he has this encounter. He has this dream. The ladder is set up. 86 00:08:12.120 --> 00:08:16.040 These angels ascending and descending. The glory of God is coming down upon him. 87 00:08:16.040 --> 00:08:21.160 He hears the voice of God. It's this amazing thing. He is now experiencing 88 00:08:21.160 --> 00:08:28.320 both in his dream and when he awakes in the morning, he is experiencing an open 89 00:08:28.320 --> 00:08:39.760 heaven. This is pretty amazing. Now what happened between him not experiencing 90 00:08:39.760 --> 00:08:43.679 the open heaven that was there and the presence of God that was there and 91 00:08:43.679 --> 00:08:49.840 experiencing or stepping into the reality or the awareness of the nearness, 92 00:08:49.840 --> 00:08:56.000 the awareness of the presence. This is what happened. He picked a stone and he 93 00:08:56.000 --> 00:09:02.800 laid his head and rested on the stone. Now this is, of course, as I mentioned 94 00:09:02.800 --> 00:09:12.800 before, a prophetic. Jacob is an individual prototype of what would become 95 00:09:12.800 --> 00:09:16.480 true of an entire generation that Psalm 24, and we're going to go to there in a 96 00:09:16.480 --> 00:09:21.920 second, calls the generation of Jacob. And what's happening here with Jacob as an 97 00:09:21.920 --> 00:09:26.880 individual is a prophetic prototype of what would happen and what will happen 98 00:09:26.880 --> 00:09:31.680 and is and what is happening right now with a future generation that is called 99 00:09:31.680 --> 00:09:36.320 and labeled according to the Bible, the generation of Jacob. And we are all, if 100 00:09:36.320 --> 00:09:40.960 you listen to this, you are part of this generation that David writes about in 101 00:09:40.960 --> 00:09:45.360 Psalm 24. So it's Abba and Ben joined together as one, and what it is, 116 00:11:09.680 --> 00:11:15.920 it's a prophetic picture of the union between the father and the son. It's a prophetic picture that 117 00:11:15.920 --> 00:11:23.280 says I am one with my father and my father is one with me. This is Jacob, the 133 00:13:00.160 --> 00:13:04.480 generation, not the individual now. Now he's talking about the generation. He's talking about me.
