Yes, I will rejoice. 14 00:01:19.400 --> 00:01:24.400 When you're reading that, as I was reading and studying, the Holy Spirit asked me this. 15 00:01:24.400 --> 00:01:27.400 What is my motivation for preaching the gospel? 16 00:01:27.400 --> 00:01:29.400 Why am I choosing this? 17 00:01:29.400 --> 00:01:38.400 Because when you read Paul's desire, you just see a man who's ready to put everything on the altar for the Lord. 18 00:01:38.400 --> 00:01:40.400 And then the Lord asked me this. 19 00:01:40.400 --> 00:01:43.400 Do I want fame, money, and influence? 20 00:01:43.400 --> 00:01:47.400 Or do I want the Holy Spirit, Jesus, and the Father? 21 00:01:47.400 --> 00:01:51.400 What is my motivation of doing this podcast right now? 22 00:01:51.400 --> 00:01:57.400 Is it so that you guys can like the message and think I'm all this big guy? 23 00:01:57.400 --> 00:02:00.400 Or is it that the message of Christ is being preached? 24 00:02:00.400 --> 00:02:03.400 What is your motivation for doing anything? 25 00:02:03.400 --> 00:02:10.400 So I can stay and camp there, but let's move forward because our motivation is what, 26 00:02:10.400 --> 00:02:16.400 when the coming of the age comes, the Lord is going to expose our motivation for a lot of things. 27 00:02:16.400 --> 00:02:23.400 And that's why it's beautiful to be intimate with the Lord because He checks and reveals your motivation. 28 00:02:23.400 --> 00:02:26.400 Paul's perspective is something that's very interesting to me. 29 00:02:26.400 --> 00:02:28.400 This is a man who's in jail. 30 00:02:28.400 --> 00:02:33.400 People are badmouthing him, but he's keeping his eyes on the prize. 31 00:02:33.400 --> 00:02:36.400 He said, regardless of whether they're doing it out of envy or strife, 32 00:02:36.400 --> 00:02:40.400 regardless whether they're trying to bring me down in my chains, 33 00:02:40.400 --> 00:02:44.400 it doesn't matter because Christ is being preached. 34 00:02:44.400 --> 00:02:49.400 And I pray, and this is not something that I'm just saying this because I'm here. 35 00:02:49.400 --> 00:02:56.400 I genuinely pray that I personally, and we all, will get to that level of surrender 36 00:02:56.400 --> 00:03:01.400 where we say, it doesn't matter what's happening to me, around me. 37 00:03:01.400 --> 00:03:05.400 What matters is Christ is being preached. 38 00:03:05.400 --> 00:03:10.400 That's always tested when your numbers are low, you have a church, or when you're going through a tough time. 39 00:03:10.400 --> 00:03:12.400 Do you genuinely mean that? 40 00:03:12.400 --> 00:03:17.400 So that's kind of like the overall view of verses 12 to 18. 41 00:03:17.400 --> 00:03:20.400 But let's go deep verse by verse. 42 00:03:20.400 --> 00:03:22.400 So let's go to verse 13 and 14. 43 00:03:22.400 --> 00:03:23.400 This is what it says. 44 00:03:23.400 --> 00:03:45.400 Jesus Christ was Paul's only goal. 45 00:03:45.400 --> 00:03:50.400 For as long as Jesus' name was being preached, he was willing to go through anything. 46 00:03:50.400 --> 00:03:52.400 Paul had a very interesting calling. 47 00:03:52.400 --> 00:03:53.400 Very interesting. 48 00:03:53.400 --> 00:03:57.400 And you can see his calling in Acts 9 from 15 to 16. 49 00:03:57.400 --> 00:04:00.400 Now the context of Acts 9 is when Paul is going to Damascus, 50 00:04:00.400 --> 00:04:03.400 and if you've heard this story, you probably already know it too well. 51 00:04:03.400 --> 00:04:07.400 He encounters Christ, he's knocked off the horse, he's gone blind. 52 00:04:07.400 --> 00:04:12.400 And then later in that chapter, Jesus approaches a man called Ananias, 53 00:04:12.400 --> 00:04:13.400 and tells him about Paul. 54 00:04:13.400 --> 00:04:17.399 And this is what Jesus tells Ananias about the call of Paul. 55 00:04:21.399 --> 00:04:39.400 At the beginning of his calling, suffering was in the package. 56 00:04:39.400 --> 00:04:41.400 That was part of his journey. 57 00:04:41.400 --> 00:04:46.400 And if you read through the epistles, you see how much suffering that man went through. 58 00:04:46.400 --> 00:04:50.400 Paul's calling was steeped in suffering for Jesus' sake. 59 00:04:50.400 --> 00:04:55.400 It is interesting when Jesus leads us in our calling, he never gives us the full picture. 60 00:04:55.400 --> 00:04:59.400 He just shows you the mountaintops, but he never shows you the valley. 61 00:05:00.000 --> 00:05:02.000 And I think He does that to protect us. 62 00:05:02.000 --> 00:05:07.000 Because when you see, when you're in your calling and then you begin to encounter all these challenges, 63 00:05:07.000 --> 00:05:09.000 there are times when you'll be questioning, 64 00:05:09.000 --> 00:05:11.000 do I really want to do this? 65 00:05:11.000 --> 00:05:17.000 And I believe He takes us through these situations to test our motivations. 66 00:05:17.000 --> 00:05:19.000 To test, why are you doing this? 67 00:05:19.000 --> 00:05:25.000 When I said yes to Jesus, and I said yes to pursuing His call, 68 00:05:25.000 --> 00:05:30.000 I had no idea how many times I'll go without eating 69 00:05:30.000 --> 00:05:34.000 because I chose to believe God and moved to a different city. 70 00:05:34.000 --> 00:05:40.000 I had no idea how much pain the calling brings 71 00:05:40.000 --> 00:05:43.000 when He's walking you through the fire to purify you, 72 00:05:43.000 --> 00:05:45.000 to make sure that you're ready. 73 00:05:45.000 --> 00:05:46.000 I didn't know. 74 00:05:46.000 --> 00:05:51.000 If I knew, I might, I might say no. 75 00:05:51.000 --> 00:05:54.000 But a little thing about my test, my calling, 76 00:05:54.000 --> 00:05:57.000 I had this encounter and I'm not going to share the whole encounter. 77 00:05:57.000 --> 00:06:01.000 I had this open vision and towards the end of this open vision, 78 00:06:01.000 --> 00:06:06.000 the Lord asks me, are you willing to preach the gospel? 79 00:06:06.000 --> 00:06:09.000 And He wasn't just asking me like, yes or no. 80 00:06:09.000 --> 00:06:15.000 When He asked me, I got a glimpse of what it meant 81 00:06:15.000 --> 00:06:19.000 and all the suffering that it comes with saying yes to the call. 82 00:06:19.000 --> 00:06:21.000 And He questions that. 83 00:06:21.000 --> 00:06:27.000 He asks you that so that you can know, is this what you want? 84 00:06:27.000 --> 00:06:29.000 Because if you look at the lives of the apostles, 85 00:06:29.000 --> 00:06:32.000 they were not celebrated like the way we celebrate them today. 86 00:06:32.000 --> 00:06:34.000 They went through a lot. 87 00:06:34.000 --> 00:06:38.000 And the Lord does that to test your motivation. 88 00:06:38.000 --> 00:06:41.000 By the time Paul is writing this letter, 89 00:06:41.000 --> 00:06:46.000 he was completely surrendered to whatever the Lord was leading him to. 90 00:06:46.000 --> 00:06:49.000 He had gone through the valleys and the mountains. 91 00:06:49.000 --> 00:06:51.000 He had gone through it all. 92 00:06:51.000 --> 00:06:56.000 And by this time he was ready to say yes to whatever Jesus wanted him to do. 93 00:06:56.000 --> 00:06:59.000 Verses 15 and 18 are challenging verses to me 94 00:06:59.000 --> 00:07:03.000 because they remind me of what our heart posture should look like. 95 00:07:03.000 --> 00:07:06.000 Regardless of what others are saying about you, 96 00:07:06.000 --> 00:07:11.000 the only thing that matters is what is Jesus saying about you. 97 00:07:11.000 --> 00:07:13.000 What is the Lord telling you? 98 00:07:14.000 --> 00:07:17.000 This is why it's important for you to be intimate with Him. 99 00:07:17.000 --> 00:07:20.000 If you're not intimate with Him, if you don't know how to hear His voice, 100 00:07:20.000 --> 00:07:23.000 how are you going to know what He's telling you? 101 00:07:23.000 --> 00:07:28.000 How are you going to know what He's telling you not to believe or what to believe? 102 00:07:28.000 --> 00:07:30.000 How are you going to know the path to take? 103 00:07:30.000 --> 00:07:33.000 Because a lot of the times the Lord is leading you, 104 00:07:33.000 --> 00:07:37.000 the decisions you make, they are between good and good things. 105 00:07:37.000 --> 00:07:40.000 It's not like an obviously bad thing and obviously good thing. 106 00:07:40.000 --> 00:07:42.000 This is a good thing.
