He led me to the parable of the wheat and the tares in Matthew chapter 13. And 82 00:05:05.760 --> 00:05:10.640 in fact, Matthew 13, the parables of Jesus that speak about the kingdom, there's no more clear, 83 00:05:10.640 --> 00:05:17.200 concise teaching about the kingdom of God than Jesus' parables in Matthew 13. And I love the 84 00:05:17.200 --> 00:05:23.760 parable of the wheat and the tares. So, chapter 13, verse 24 through 30 is the actual parable. 85 00:05:24.400 --> 00:05:29.280 And then Jesus comes back to explain the parable, which is where we're going to focus, and that's 86 00:05:29.280 --> 00:05:32.560 verses 37 to 43. So, I'm just going to read that. 87 00:05:59.280 --> 00:06:28.640 So, this is what I call, you know, this is, Jesus gives us from the time of the son of man 88 00:06:28.640 --> 00:06:33.760 planting the kingdom to the time of the harvest at the end of the age. He gives us the picture 89 00:06:33.760 --> 00:06:38.880 on the puzzle box of the story that we need to find ourselves in. Because I find people, 90 00:06:38.880 --> 00:06:44.240 it's like you dump the puzzle pieces on the table, and they start trying to fit pieces together, 91 00:06:44.240 --> 00:06:47.840 like, where does the beast go? Where does the Antichrist go? Where do these go? Where do this, 92 00:06:47.840 --> 00:06:53.280 you know? And it's like, start with the right picture. This is the picture Jesus gives. It 93 00:06:53.280 --> 00:06:58.560 puzzles me why, when people talk about eschatology, or the end times, or the end of the 94 00:06:58.560 --> 00:07:06.480 age, why they don't start with Jesus's very clear, simple teaching here. Because he says it. He gives 95 00:07:06.480 --> 00:07:10.320 the whole picture right there, and he clearly says that the harvest is the end of the age, 96 00:07:10.320 --> 00:07:13.520 and the angels are the reapers. So, we're going to dig in a little more on that. 97 00:07:15.200 --> 00:07:21.440 So, this parable can be broken down into three parts. So, I call it the planting, the growing, 98 00:07:21.440 --> 00:07:26.800 and the harvest. So, looking at the planting, so this is how the kingdom of God gets into the 99 00:07:26.800 --> 00:07:31.680 earth. He plants it. The Son of Man plants it. So, from the parable that we just looked at, 100 00:07:31.680 --> 00:07:37.360 it's the Son of Man sows the sons of the kingdom, which is the wheat, into the world. So, we're 101 00:07:37.360 --> 00:07:43.760 sown into the world. So, Jesus plants his kingdom. So, I might just point out, first, the kingdom is 102 00:07:43.760 --> 00:07:49.440 actually planted in people. Because, you know, we have that teaching of Jesus in Luke 17, 20, 21, 103 00:07:49.440 --> 00:07:54.240 where he says, the kingdom of God does not come with observation. So, don't look for an army to 104 00:07:54.240 --> 00:07:58.960 come, and don't look for the royal procession. He says, nor will they say, see here or see there, 105 00:07:58.960 --> 00:08:03.520 for indeed the kingdom of God is within you. So, the kingdom of God comes within you when you're 106 00:08:03.520 --> 00:08:08.320 born of the Holy Spirit. You're born into the kingdom, and now it begins to grow inside of 107 00:08:08.320 --> 00:08:13.760 you and transform you. But then he takes you and me, and he plants us in the earth. We're the 108 00:08:13.760 --> 00:08:19.360 planting of the Lord, and we begin to leaven and change everything around us, if we're operating 109 00:08:19.360 --> 00:08:25.200 by faith and we have an understanding of who we are. So, another verse that kind of speaks of this, 110 00:08:25.200 --> 00:08:29.440 hints of this planting, is the parable of the leaven. The kingdom is like leaven, which a woman 111 00:08:29.440 --> 00:08:36.640 took and hid in the meal. So, this yeast is stuck in. It's mixed into the dough. We're mixed into 112 00:08:36.720 --> 00:08:42.400 the earth. So, and it says, until it all was leavened. So, there's a clue there too. And then 113 00:08:42.400 --> 00:08:47.360 Isaiah 61.3, and where it speaks of the redeemed, it says, and then they shall be called, and this 114 00:08:47.360 --> 00:08:52.960 is us, they shall be called the trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord. So, we 115 00:08:52.960 --> 00:08:56.880 got to really get that through our heads that we're planted in the earth. We're not here to escape the 116 00:08:56.880 --> 00:09:02.800 earth. God intends for his people to be very invested and very integral with the world. He said, 117 00:09:02.800 --> 00:09:09.600 don't be of the world, but you are in the world. And we're here for a reason. So, the next chapter, 118 00:09:09.600 --> 00:09:14.000 so to speak, is the growing season. So, that's between the time when the sower starts to sow 119 00:09:14.000 --> 00:09:18.560 the seed and the harvest at the end of the age. So, we're going to go into this. We're going to 120 00:09:18.560 --> 00:09:23.120 spend, we're kind of drilling in deeper and deeper. We're kind of zooming in as we go through these 121 00:09:23.120 --> 00:09:27.120 classes. We're going to spend more time talking about the growing, because honestly, that's where 122 00:09:27.120 --> 00:09:32.240 we live. That's the season. That's the chapter of the story that we're living in. So, we're going to 123 00:09:32.240 --> 00:09:37.040 ultimately get to the point where we're talking about, how do we live then? How do we participate 124 00:09:37.040 --> 00:09:42.400 in this growing up of the wheat field, in this leavening of the loaf process that we're all 125 00:09:42.400 --> 00:09:46.080 called to be part of? So, suffice it to say, in the parable of the wheat and the tares, 126 00:09:46.800 --> 00:09:51.280 there's a clue in there that it says, this is not in the explanation, but in the parable itself, 127 00:09:51.280 --> 00:09:55.360 where the wheat and the tares are growing together. And remember, the servants come and 128 00:09:55.360 --> 00:09:59.120 ask the master, do you want us to remove the tares? The tares actually become wheat, because we 133 00:10:14.760 --> 00:10:19.640 were all sons of the devil until we were born a second time and born into the kingdom. Now, would that stink for the devil? We're on the winning side, folks. These are all things that are happening between the first advent 141 00:10:51.440 --> 00:10:57.960 of Jesus and the return of Jesus. So, you know, the government and peace of Jesus' 142 00:10:57.960 --> 00:11:02.440 kingdom is increasing, like Isaiah foretold, of the increase of His government and peace, 143 00:11:02.440 --> 00:11:08.960 there will be no end. So, I wanted to get to the harvest. I love talking about the harvest, 144 00:11:08.960 --> 00:11:13.480 because looking at this parable, so there's three main points I'd like to bring out here. 145 00:11:13.480 --> 00:11:18.980 The first to notice is that the harvest is the end of this age. So, here Jesus has given 146 00:11:18.980 --> 00:11:24.560 us a clear picture, and granted it's a very high level picture, it's a 70,000 foot view, 147 00:11:24.560 --> 00:11:31.120 but He says that the harvest is the end of the age, and the angels are the reapers. So, 148 00:11:31.120 --> 00:11:35.160 you know, that's something to keep in mind as we go through this. By the way, you'll 149 00:11:35.160 --> 00:11:39.680 notice that the tares are removed. I'm just going to leave that hang there, but it's, 150 00:11:39.680 --> 00:11:44.880 you know, I'm tempted to use a word there, but I'll just say it again, the tares are 151 00:11:44.880 --> 00:11:50.280 removed out of the earth, or out of the field. Okay, I'll leave it there. And it's a wheat 152 00:11:50.280 --> 00:11:54.760 field. Okay, the second thing I would like to point out is notice that the world, or 153 00:11:54.760 --> 00:12:01.920 the field, has become Jesus' kingdom. Now, that's crazy. It's just, so verse 41 says 154 00:12:01.920 --> 00:12:08.560 the angels, the reapers, will gather the tares out of His kingdom, and it's Jesus, it's speaking 155 00:12:08.560 --> 00:12:12.520 of Jesus. So, you have to ask the question. He said at the beginning that the field was 156 00:12:12.520 --> 00:12:18.720 the world, and at the end of the age, He's saying the tares, or the weeds, are removed 157 00:12:18.960 --> 00:12:23.600 from out of His kingdom. How did that happen? I mean, why didn't He say from out of the 158 00:12:23.600 --> 00:12:29.440 world, or from out of the wheat field? Well, it's exactly that. The kingdoms of this world 159 00:12:29.440 --> 00:12:34.840 have become the kingdom of our God, and of His Christ. So, through this process, the 160 00:12:34.840 --> 00:12:40.640 earth that the seeds were being planted in has become what Jesus calls the kingdom that 161 00:12:40.640 --> 00:12:45.120 the tares are removed out of. I just find that stunning. I mean, there's an incredible 162 00:12:45.120 --> 00:12:49.480 transformation that happens from the beginning, when the earth starts getting planted, or 163 00:12:49.480 --> 00:12:54.800 the field, and at the end, when Jesus actually refers to it as His kingdom. And there's a 164 00:12:54.800 --> 00:13:02.480 major clue there for us. So, finally, the third thing I want to point out about this, 165 00:13:02.480 --> 00:13:07.440 the end of the age here, and this parable, is this divine handoff. And I don't know if 166 00:13:07.440 --> 00:13:14.440 you caught it, but I'm going to read again verse 41 and 42, and just listen real carefully. 167 00:13:14.600 --> 00:13:20.080 The Son of Man will send out of His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom, that's 168 00:13:20.080 --> 00:13:26.280 the Son of Man's kingdom, Jesus. They'll gather out of Jesus' kingdom, the tares, and will 169 00:13:26.280 --> 00:13:32.400 cast them into the furnace of fire, and then it goes on to say, then the righteous will 170 00:13:32.400 --> 00:13:41.040 shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Wait a second, how come it doesn't 171 00:13:41.040 --> 00:13:45.800 say they'll shine forth in the kingdom of Jesus, or they'll shine forth in my kingdom? 172 00:13:45.800 --> 00:13:49.480 Now I don't want to split hairs and get into semantics, because I know that the Father 173 00:13:49.480 --> 00:13:54.240 and the Son are one, but to me it seems like there's been a divine handoff that's happened 174 00:13:54.240 --> 00:13:58.440 here. Because it's called the kingdom of Jesus when the tares are removed, but then it says 175 00:13:58.440 --> 00:14:03.440 the wheat, or the righteous, shine forth in the kingdom of their Father. And this hit 176 00:14:03.440 --> 00:14:08.760 me about three years ago, and it was stunning. I was in a quiet time, and the Lord led me 177 00:14:08.760 --> 00:14:13.240 to go back and read the Lord's Prayer. And so I'll double back on that, but I just want 178 00:14:13.240 --> 00:14:20.760 to give one more scripture to look at in light of this context, and it's 1 Corinthians 15-24. 179 00:14:20.760 --> 00:14:25.420 And it says, then the end will come, and by the way, this is talking clearly about when 180 00:14:25.420 --> 00:14:31.400 Jesus returns to the earth, and it says, then the end will come when He, Jesus, hands over 181 00:14:31.400 --> 00:14:37.960 the kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all dominion, authority, and power. 182 00:14:37.960 --> 00:14:42.520 And we're actually given the picture that Jesus steps back in line and subjects Himself 183 00:14:42.520 --> 00:14:49.880 again to the Father. So the picture I see here is that Jesus, last Adam, comes as a 184 00:14:49.880 --> 00:14:57.120 man, the Son of Man. He comes, wins back the dominion for man, as a man, and man with the 185 00:14:57.120 --> 00:14:59.960 head at the throne, Jesus Christ at the head. 186 00:15:00.000 --> 00:15:04.300 on his throne as the head over the body who's on the earth, 187 00:15:04.300 --> 00:15:07.740 his kings and priests, have completed the job that was 188 00:15:07.740 --> 00:15:11.100 actually first given to Adam way back in Genesis, which was to 189 00:15:11.100 --> 00:15:14.080 fill the earth, really to fill the earth with God's glory. He says, let's pray to our father who art in 206 00:16:14.020 --> 00:16:19.140 heaven. And it says, thy father, thy kingdom come on earth. And I 207 00:16:19.140 --> 00:16:21.160 thought that's, I thought that was interesting. So I went back 208 00:16:21.160 --> 00:16:23.540 and looked and found these scriptures and it's like, this, 209 00:16:23.540 --> 00:16:26.700 this is it. It's, it's this kingdom is handed back to the 210 00:16:26.720 --> 00:16:32.300 father.
